iStock Won’t Let You Play in Runyon Canyon March 11, 2016
I recently took a trip to Los Angeles and shot some stock footage in Runyon Canyon Park, a popular walking and hiking trail just a stone’s throw away from Hollywood Boulevard.

Against my better judgement, I decided to upload a few of these new shots I grabbed while on the trail to iStock. After they were approved, I went to do a test search to see if I could find them. I was surprised that iStock must have some sort of auto-correct feature enabled when searching, and the site promptly changes “Runyon Canyon” to “Reunion Canyon” (see my attempt in the video example).
I tried several browsers and operating systems, and all my searches for “Runyon Canyon” got changed to “Reunion Canyon.” So, I guess if I can’t search for these shots, customers looking for this subject matter won’t either.
Odd. I suspect their bizarre system of “disambiguating” keywords doesn’t think that “Runyon Canyon” is a valid phrase. But it is, and iStock should fix this.
Just another reason why iStock is rapidly becoming “unfriended” by stock media producers.0
